This
entertaining walk will be themed on the famous short
story by H G Wells, set in West Kensington and based on
an historical paranormal event there, the Door in the
Wall. A story of a mysterious door in a wall in the
Holland Park area, that leads the central character into
a fantastical, enchanted garden, but which cannot be
found on subsequent searches. The tale recounts the
effect of this haunting door on the mundane life of the
character, and his fruitless searches for it, after its
continual reappearances in his life. Basically an
exploration of the power of the human imagination, and a
rebellion against the stultifying effects of rational
materialism, the story will form a context for an
exploration of the very real paranormal phenomena
reported in the area. We shall thus search for our own
door in the wall as we weave our way from Olympia,
through Holland Park towards one of the most haunted
sites in the locality Kensington Palace. The walk will
cost £5 and last approx one hour.
The Ghost
Walks are guided by Steve Ash from Wyrd
Walks Steve Ash of Wyrd Walks has been conducting
‘magical tours’ of London most weekends for over a year
now, combining his knowledge of the city, and his
continuing research into its hidden mysteries, with a
highly entertaining stimulation of the imagination.
Revealing new perspectives of London unknown to most
people. The series of walks he has devised, named after
the Anglo-Saxon word for weaving or fate, wyrd, include
pagan tours of London’s ancient spiritual heritage,
paranormal explorations of its ghosts, ghouls and
related Forteana, as well as encounters with the city’s
rich folklore. On both days of the Mystic Arts
Exhibition, Wyrd Walks will be hosting three walks in
the vicinity of
